Caveman Tri

This past Sunday, Shannah, my husband, Andrew, and all the ladies of Team Good Ass Fried Chicken participated in the caveman triathlon in Grapevine, TX. It was an official race, but more of a practice for the main race, Capital of Texas Triathlon in Austin on Memorial Day. I went to cheer on the team with my friend, Blake. Here are a couple of pics he took of Shannah and Andrew during the race.

Butterflies Set Free

Shannah and I have had a whirlwind of a week. On Monday, we caught a super early flight to Denver, CO and set to work. I must admit that such a large, outdoor install in a city not close to Dallas, combined with the particulars of a children's hospital all made me very nervous. But I didn't need to be! The people who worked for Denver Health and Saunders Construction couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful!! We put the butterflies together then Shannah and John (our sweet, patient friend who drives a mean lift) started hanging them with trusty airplane cable. Tony (our other sweet friend who was head of this huge job) and I did a lot of directing from the ground, and occasionally, from the second story window. The awning over the butterflies creates a wind tunnel some days, so the butterflies had to be connected at several points. We wanted them to look like they were passing through the awning dipping high and low. We are so pleased with the way they turned out! The wings are in different placements and the various sizes and styles of butterflies add a realistic dimension to this beautiful sculpture. One of the best parts is the huge windows in the second story playroom which allow you to see the intricacies of each of the butterflies at eye level. We also placed three butterflies in a small, but tall circular room of windows that is going to be a library. The new playroom and outdoor space at the Children's sector of Denver Health looked fabulous for the big reveal this Saturday. Of course, we are biased, but the Butterfly Sculpture was the best part!!!!

packing up and shipping off...

Here are some pics right before we packed the butterflies up and shipped them off. Monday and Tuesday, Shannah and I will be in Denver executing the install. I will be sure to take pictures of the butterflies at their final destination. This project has been on a crazy timeline, but I know it's going to be completely worth all the hard work.

back to the grind

This is a super hot picture of Shannah after she spent all day polishing the butterfly bodies. Small perks of pregnancy... I get out of these nasty jobs.
