butterfly beginnings

We hired our friend, Joe Contreras, to help us sculpt and mold these beautiful butterfly bodies. We will attach huge aluminum wings to make a butterfly sculpture at a children's hospital in Denver next month. Not only is Joe amazing at what he does, but he is saving me from being around all kinds of harmful chemicals. In this sneak peak, you can see him sculpting the bodies out of clay. Next he will mold the bodies and cast them out of polyester resin.....to be continued.....

Spring is here...

And the DOGS are loving it!

I am obsessed with this fabulous 75 degree weather!

The dogs can finally play some ball.

Sometimes they even drop it in my lap.

A tan is a must! Pearl's new favorite spot is the stairs.

Bird on a Wire Table
by Jane Waggoner and f. is for frank
January 2010

Art or function...a table that encompasses both. The bases, made of steel blackened with a light bronze wax finish, look like a nest or spools unraveling. The strips are thick and sturdy to support the heavy glass top, but their unusual ribbon shapes are jagged and bent to give a perception of light and airiness. A beautiful bronze bird balances on the ribbon connecting the two bases and can easily be seen through the glass top as guests dine. Sitting nonchalantly on a window sill is a second bronze bird watching over the diners. The sculptural and personal aspects of this table read like art, yet provide function for this small space.

The creative concept of Jane and her client blending with our design and execution...a perfect match!

according to Casey...

I thought it might be fun to add this new section to the blog. So much of our personal lives influence our designs, the business and the directions we take. I want to let our customers, fans and friends in on the crazy surprises that are going on here day to day. To bring everyone up to date, I need to back up to last fall.....

In September, Shannah took on the great and heroic responsibility of taking care of Justin, her former fiance and friend, during the last 3 months of his life. He was battling a super strain of Hodgkin lymphoma, a cancer that had gone to his brain, and had to be with someone 24 hours a day. I was given the humbling opportunity to also spend those last months with him as he came to our studio everyday. We moved our office to the middle of the studio and set up the room with a bed. Justin spent most of the days sleeping a lot, eating many freeze pops and occasionally helping with our chaotic orders. I was an emotional mess, but did my best to keep it under wraps for Shannah's sake and get us through our busy holiday season.

Justin passed on Dec. 12th and left a huge impression on our hearts. He taught me to take life by the horns because you never know how long you are going to be here or what life will bring you. We took a holiday break to spend with our families and resumed our work in January.
As the new year began, so did new surprises. Justin always wanted to do a triathlon, so Shannah decided to set up a team through Team In Training supporting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Shannah and a bunch of her crazy friends along with my husband, Andrew, and I all signed on. But as life's surprises go, I was about to be hit with a big one. I found out I was pregnant on January 14th, a day before my 28th birthday, and on January 20th the doctor confirmed I was 12 weeks and one day pregnant. Crazy how one life ends and another begins. It was God's plan for me not to know. This fall was about Justin...spring and summer will be about new life. Fast forward to March 1st when Andrew and I found out we will have a BOY! He is due August 3rd and is healthy so far. Stay tuned for the updates on all our crazy happenings.
