Inspiration Monday: Pumpkin Warts and Wrinkles

Happy Halloween! This fall I have been in the spirit. I visited two pumpkins patches and got to see some fantastic pumpkins. My favorites were the ones with warts and wrinkles. We are always looking for new textures to influence our designs and these are the perfect inspiration.

A day in the life....

This is a day in the life at f. is for frank... this post can also be seen on www.100daysofdesign.com.. a hundred days of designers from the NYIGF

A day in our life at f. is for frank is a combination of a little chaos and calm, mixed in with a lot of creativity. f. is for frank has just two employees, Shannah and I (Casey). We design and create a fabulous line of handmade, cast pewter jewelry. Shannah and I have a little help from 3 dogs named Milo, Millie and Pearl, a walking, talking toddler named Walker and a intern named Christine.
Our day starts between 9 and 9:30 a.m. Shannah gets to the studio earlier than I do and brings her boxer, Milo. I drop my toddler off at Mother's Day out and bring my dogs Millie and Pearl. The first thing we do is tend to emails and accounting business. We then go over the days schedule. Today, we had a meeting with a client at 10:30. Milo assisted.
After our meeting and lunch we did some "back room" work making jewelry. Here I am casting pewter.

Shannah is sanding the pewter castings to get them ready to be polished, soldered and antiqued.

As you can see we have been very busy. This table is full of jewelry we are in the process of making to send out to our stores all over the country.

Walker graces us with his presence in the afternoons. He loves the studio and has plenty of toys and dogs to keep him entertained. We work around him usually packing orders and completing marketing task in the front room of our studio so one of us can keep a good eye on him. Our days come to a close around 5 and among all the chaos and distraction, I always leave here feeling a sense of accomplishment.

Perfect Pairings: Comfy, Cozy Cable-Knit...

As fall continues into winter, and the need for sweaters grows, the need for long necklaces will grow as well.
This great crewneck Fisherman Sweater from JCrew is a perfect example of a comfy, cozy cable-knit.
Throw our long pewter spearhead necklace with leather over the sweater to accessorize this neutral look.
To make an even bolder statement add our gold casey cuff to mix and match your jewelry.

Prints of Love

With the holidays rapidly approaching, we all feel the pressure to figure out what perfect gifts to buy our loved ones. Well look no further, f. is for frank has just what you are looking for...

Our Prints of Love take the finger prints of anyone over the age of 2 and incorporate them in cufflinks, necklaces, key chains and ornaments.
If you have a baby under 6 months, we can make a handprint paperweight.
(Moms, dads, grandparents [or anyone really] love these gifts!)

On larger necklace charms we can fit two different finger prints with both names next to them. They come on either a chain or leather cord. $65

These beautiful pieces capture a moment in time and last forever giving a very special gift that people will never forget. (Just be careful, these are such amazing gifts it will be hard to out-do yourself next year!)

Call 214.749.0709 to make an appointment to have the finger or hand prints taken. It only takes about 10 minutes and about 2-3 weeks for us to cast.

Totally Radical!

While doing some research for a new project I came across Imogen Luddy's Cross Stitch Table and I was stopped in my tracks. I am totally in love. We have done a number of projects using laser and water cutting but this is amazing. The detail blows my mind and the juxtaposition of the modern and the classic is so stunning.

Perfect Pairings: Rocker Chic

For this week's Perfect Pairing we decided to target all you cool rocker-chic ladies.

Nothing says cool like a leather jacket, black skinny jeans and some great funky boots. But to really exemplify the feeling of cool, add f. is for frank's Gold Stingray Chest Plate

The gold will pop against the black, creating a great combination and look.

Inspiration of the Week

Tree of Life Poster

I love design that makes you look a little closer. Design that is more than what it seems.

Designed by Gary, Aaron & Khairul of Degree, "Tree of Life" was created with the intent of drawing attention to rainforest deforestation and the dwindling habitat of millions of animal species that live there, or are now extinct

Perfect Pairings: The Little Black Dress for Fall

As we make our way into fall, we find ourselves getting to pull out our great sweater dresses.

For a night out, the sweater dress in black makes for a cozy, yet sexy LBD. Anthropology has this great Lenox Shirtdress for the occasion.

The LBD can always hold it's own, but it is truly fabulous when paired with a great necklace. That is where f. is for frank comes in...

The Mixed Hickory Slice Necklace is the perfect piece to really make a statement, adding just the right amount of sass to really make your LBD stand out.

Meet Our New Intern!

Hi Everyone!
My name is Christine Jonas and I am the new f. is for frank intern! I am a senior at Southern Methodist Unviersity. Where I study journalism and studio art.

I am from California and once I graduate in May I hope to be heading further east to NYC. (To do what exactly? Who knows! But thats the exciting part!)

I am so excited to work with Casey and Shannah here at f. is for frank and learn all they have to teach me! I have been a fan of their's for a while and have a few of their pieces already. Their Pewter Jefferson Ring (which I am wearing in the photo below) is one of my favorite pieces of jewelry I own!

Aside from being an intern here, I am an associate A&E editor for SMU's The Daily Campus. I also write and publish my own fashion lifestyle blog www.givemeyourforever.com. (That's where all these pictures came from.)

I'm so excited for this opportunity and will keep you posted on how it's going!
